This is our favorite photo from the documentation of our research trip to Tinkertown, an outsider artist project in New Mexico and we use it as both beacon and salvo for our own project even though (or maybe, because) it’s congratulatory and accusatory signification is constantly slipping.
Ross Ward, the artist behind this unusual museum, first welcomed us to his site in the early 1990s. We were sad to learn he had died from Alzheimer’s Disease when we returned to New Mexico in 2002. Ross was only 62.
